11:35: Identifier Technology Health Indicators (ITHI)

  • Savenaca Vocea: Vice President Engagement Oceania, ICANN
  • Abstract: ITHI, or Identifier Technologies Health Indicators, is an ICANN initiative to measure the "health" of the identifier system that ICANN helps coordinate. The goal is to produce a set of indicators that will be measured and tracked over time which can be used to determine if the system of identifiers is overall doing better or worse. This is a long-term project, expected to run for a number of years. We are reaching out to invite more partners (ISPs and TLD operators) to participate in this project.

11:50: IPv6 Deployment: Dual-stack or IPv6-only?

  • Abstract: The presentation explains why, today, deploying a complete dual-stack network (for both wireline and cellular ISPs) doesn't make any sense, even not using CGN, and instead it makes sense to deploy as much as possible IPv6-only access (sometimes even in other parts of the network, including DCs) and IPv4aaS (IPv4 as a Service), and possible approaches for that.

  • Abstract: This session aims to provide an overview and update status of the Fiji IXP and recent upgrades. It will also share on the new initiatives in implementing security baselines for the IXP, incorporating security and vulnerability assessments in its design and developments.

  • Abstract: USP is the largest education institution in the Pacific having over 30,000 students and operates a largest private Wide Area Network (WAN) across 33 Million Square K/Meters in the Pacific. Also it incorporating an array of local area campus networks, server and management systems throughout its 12 member countries in the Pacific with the main campus in Fiji as the hub. USP has a very large and complex Network Infrastructure also deploy various technologies including IPv6. USP is also the ccTLD Administrator for the dot FJ domain since the inception of Internet and the first organization in Fiji to use Internet. Ensuring that USP remains effective, a team of network engineers work around day and night to provide the critical infrastructure and platforms for USP to function. IT Services is regarded as an indispensable driving force within the USP. ICT is pervasive; it touches and profoundly impacts every aspect of the University activities. This presentation will provide the History - FJ Domain, Challenges, PKI, DNS Security, IPv6, Platform Upgrade, Opportunities, Future development in these areas.

I will be highlighting one of my experience with management and mitigation of an incident in the virtual environment. I will close off and stress the importance of redundancy and backup in virtual and physical environment with regards to the IT industry.

14:15: Beyond your network, why Routing Security requires global collaborative effort

  • Kunal Raj: ISOC MANRS Fellow; APNIC Community Trainer; Senior Security, Research, Innovation Engineer at Telecom Fiji
  • Abstract: This presentation focuses on MANRS and its actions that operators should consider beyond their network, why Routing Security requires global collaborative effort to validate routing information on a global scale. We will cover automated information validation and securing global routing information using RPKI. For the Pacific NOG members, working steps of going about creating and publishing ROAs will be presented. As an example, a deployment guide of Routinator which can be used for RPKI Validation will also be provided with references for monitoring and visibility.

  • Abstract: This session will introduce Team Cymru and their roles in the area of network threats and attacks. Brian will also discuss tools and methods using network traffic to detect and prevent threats and the role of community services to prevent DDOS attacks.

  • Abstract: General network update on developments, traffic performance. Changes since arrival of CS2 submarine cable and traffic performance since. Operational experience and mitigation with significant events (internally or externally), plans to improve service resilience with upgrade to 2nd mobile core and improved IT infrastructure redundancy. Network capability and readiness/status for IPv6, current status. Need assistance from experts on migration as well as staff internal training on IPv6. Network attacks, intrusions Organisational changes and appointment of an Information & Network Security Manager and SOC team. Partnership with IONIZE https://www.ionize.com.au/ to develop HAWC SOC. New normal: work from home developments; Rocket chat + Jitsi implementation and Zoom subscription.
